Interactive Notebook Organization Tabs

When I started using these this year, it was an experiment to see if they’re valuable at all.

Y’all.

Seriously.

Not only are they EASY but this has been by far the best my kiddos notebooks have looked…well, ever. They have very few, if any, skipped pages. They don’t have notes all over the place. When they need to find something to help with a math problem or what have you, they can. With ease.

Getting Started

So I have two kinds of these. One is a full-page tab, the other is a 3-to-a-page set. I did have to print these on card stock. I don’t think they would last as long with paper. Then I just had my students cut them out.

How They Work

Once your students have cut the tabs, then have them glue them in. The first time we did this, I had to tell them many times to make sure their tab was visible and NOT to put glue on the tabs. Then they just glue them in their notebooks. Then they make sure to put all the notes for that topic behind the tab (another area my students initially struggled with).

That’s it! It’s the easiest thing ever and it makes a world of difference. It has made review season so much easier. The kids can find whatever they need help with, because they just flip to that section. Their notebooks are mostly not hot-messes. Even my messiest child can keep their notebook mostly organized and only a little messy – and this is a child who I could clean out their desk twice a day and it would need it.

Tabs in action – students can easily flip to the pages on fractions without a thought.
